Technical Investor or Fundamental Investor

Its a big lesson for me this week, for me to know on what type of investor I am. Before, I am investing for speculation in shares of stocks in the Philippine Stock Exchange. I always read business news, searching articles, and the trending on what is happening next regarding the company I will select . For the year 2010, my investment portfolio grows 31% when I started trading in December 2009 and ended December 2010. It's a big deal to have that growth, but as It comes 2011, I lost about 23% by selling my portfolio due to speculation. One scenario is the banking sector scenario during the February 2011, where their is a upcoming crisis regarding the global banking category and the worst step is the reorganizing of free float of San Miguel Corporation. This are the scenarios that tumble my portfolio during the first and second quarter. Now, comes the third quarter, the credit rating crisis, as also global exchanges tumbles and swings down due to this crisis face by US. This also have a great impact regarding my portfolio to decide to reorganize my portfolio again.

Then come to think this night. I might be wrong for my decision this year 2011. Due to they are two types of investors, the technical investor or known as speculative investor who has technical tools in predicting the price of the stocks and the Fundamental Investor, who invest due to fundamental decision regarding the companies performance through financial statement analysis and long-term capability of the company. So I come to think, that having swings over my stock portfolio, they are certain fundamentals that I think I must consider before selling any shares. I am not as great as the fund managers of multi billion funds of mutual and etfs decisions. But I must know how strong my selected company's fundamentals. From this, it is only a short effect in my portfolio any swings just as I believed myself that I selected a great fundamental stocks in my portfolio and any missed chance in selling shares in a reasonable price, I must considered it as opportunity cost/lost, besides stock markets always continue to operate after you missed that chance. There will be next time.

I believe that I would choose to be a fundamental investor and embraced that as fundamental investor "TIME not TIMING"(as the best investor gurus said) is the best important to keep in mind while trading in stock market.

Finance Wise: Commandments in having your first Credit Card

BDO Shop More Credit Card
Yes, gonna have my first application for having my first credit card. It's been 2 years that I don't want to have a credit card. This is due to the fact that some my colleagues at work are in the sinkhole of their finances due to mismanagement of their credit card. But why will I get my first credit card, after all I learned from the experiences of other people specially my co-officemates? The main reason for me, is to have my credit rating. Yes, having a good credit rating will open good doors for other opportunities like giving loans by the bank, car loans, housing loan and specially BUSINESS LOAN and others alike. But to have a good image to lenders, you must have a good credit rating. My first step is to have a good credit standing to my first and only credit card.

Credit Card as my predominately say have a good and bad sides if you don't know how to manage it wisely. The worst bad side of it, is being trapped to a big depths of debt due to nonpayment capacity and the worrisome interest rates it brings. That's how bad credit card is. Getting my first credit card takes years for me to decide and my first step is to look to the internet on what are the pros and cons and best tips from other websters experiences in using credit cards. As far long knowing credit cards, I came to some the most fundamental and important details for credit cards and called it:

COMMANDMENTS OF CREDIT CARDS

1. PASSWORDS - Credit Card password should be strong enough not to be decrypt by hackers.

2. TYPE OF CREDIT CARD - having different type of credit cards are good but you need only one, and that one should suffice all your needs. This is due that some credit card company charged big annual fees and interest rates. Also, they are some privileges that comes to the specific credit card you use, like discounts in supermarkets, freebies and others.

3.CC NO. - I cant recall but that is the 2 or 3 numbers on the authorized signature area of your credit card and this must not gave to anyone specially if some anonymous callers requiring you to give this number, and this is a big NO to give that detail.

4.ANNUAL FEES - Annual fees is one of the fundamental to know to your credit card. You must select the best credit card for you, and the least annual fees you will pay.

5. SECURITY - Credit Card security comes in two ways from you on how will you safe keep it and use it, and the internet security of yours if you transact through webs.

6. ATTITUDE - Don't be under the credit card strings but be the one who control the strings. Don't impulsive in using your credit card, use it in most important scenario or in mandatory basis only.
7. CUT-OFF DATE - Knowing your cut-off date means you know how to stretched your financial capability up to 52-55 days. It means that if you cut -off date is 30th of the month, then credit card wiser will use their credit card at 1-20th days, this transactions shall be included in your 30th cutoff statement and another 22 days for the payment due date to pay it.That' more than 50 days. That's financial stretching.

8. CHARGES AND FEES - know the charges and fees if you will not pay your balance in whole because this will make you gaga or chaotic if you will not pay it in full if you dont know it.

Credit card is not here to gave burdens to ones card holder. It is the credit card holder's responsibility on how and when to use it wisely. Using credit card is not here to maximize your CAPACITY TO PAY, it is only here to MAXIMIZE YOUR CAPACITY TO PURCHASE. SO use it wisely,

Buzz Minute: The Stock Market – Shares or Stock

Stock Market is a place where transactions of shares are held. It is a market where buyers and sellers of stocks of different listed public companies come together. This is also known as equity market due to trading transactions are dominantly in common stock trades.

To know more about Stock Market, we must first know some fundamental things to understand more about stock market.

    Let’s start with Stocks.

Stocks are known as shares, it is the proof that you are one of the part-owner of the company name printed in that stock. They are evidenced by having a Share Certificate or Stock Certificate. Sample of stock certificate is the Philippine Long Distance Telephone(PLDT) stock illustrated here in. In the stock certificate, it will inform you how many shares of stock you own, sample PLDT stock certificate certifies that 100 shares is own by Sam Sperling & Mrs Leanore Sperling JT Ten. Being a holder of 100 shares means you only own the company in the extent of 100 shares it represent in its outstanding shares of PLDT. Outstanding Shares means all shares that were issued to the public including the shares held by officers of the company. It does not include the shares repurchased by the company, or known as Treasury Shares. To illustrate, if you have 10,000 shares of PLDT and as of the date PLDT have 186,756,670 outstanding shares (data from www.pse.com.ph Aug. 11,2011). Then you owned 0.005355% of Philippine Long Distance Company.

Share stocks are generally classified into two types, the common shares and preferred shares. The difference between the two are, common shares are type of shares that are usually given the right to influence and control the management activities and decision because common share usually have the right to vote on all the company’s matters, and to adverse that influential power is that common shares have no fixed dividend paid out unlike the preferred shares. Preferred shares are equity shares that have the same attributable characteristics as debt instruments because usually preferred shares have fixed dividend rate and are more preferred first than common share in case of company liquidation after liabilities have been paid by sale of the company assets.

For investors, common shares are more preferred due to the power to vote and the capacity to increase or decrease its fair value due to company performance, fundamental and technical analysis through trading in the stock market. Like PLDT shares, which has only 5.00 pesos par value or face value per share but its market value is 2,260.00 pesos per share as of Aug 11, 2011. http://www.pse.com.ph/html/MarketInformation/stockinfo.jsp?securitySymbol=TEL
